IPL 2022: Full Squads, Schedule & Venue
After being staged in the UAE last year owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is returning to India. The 10-team season will begin on March 26 and conclude on May 29 as stated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Venues for IPL 2022
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will hold 20 games, the Brabourne Stadium will host 15 games. Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium will hold 20 matches, and Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium will host 15 matches. The BCCI, on the other hand, is still to announce the locations for the three playoffs and the final.
70 games in the league
The 10-team season will include 70 league games over four sites in Mumbai and Pune, which is 14 more than the IPL 2021 season, which had just eight teams. To prevent the possibility of Covid-19 infection, the matches were decided to be played in a single hub (the Mumbai-Pune corridor).
All ten teams will play a total of 14 league games (7 at home and 7 away), for a total of 70 league games, followed by the four playoff games. Five teams will be played twice by each side, while the other four teams will only be played once (2 only home and 2 only away).
Two virtual groups
There are five teams in each of the two groups. The BCCI has divided the clubs into two virtual groups based on the number of IPL Championships won, followed by the number of final matches played by the individual teams. While Mumbai Indians lead Group A, reigning champions Chennai Super Kings lead Group B.
The board has announced that the 15th season of the Indian Premier League would see a 25% stadium attendance. On March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will face last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2022 opener.
