IPL 2022: ‘He was very drunk and dangled me off a 15th floor balcony’ – Yuzvendra Chahal reveals shocking IPL experience from 2013

Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian leg-spinner who currently plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a seven-year stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, has spoken out about a terrifying incident that occurred in 2013 while he was playing for Mumbai Indians in the sixth edition of the IPL.

In a conversation with new companions Ravichandran Ashwin and Karun Nair, Chahal told how an intoxicated MI player had him dangling off of a balcony on the 15th level of their hotel building.

“I’ve never shared this tale before, but starting today, everyone will know. I never told anyone about it. This is from 2013, when I was playing for the Mumbai Indians and we played a match in Bangalore. Following that, there was a get-together. So there was a player who was quite inebriated; I won’t name him,” Chahal explained. “He was really inebriated,” he said, “and he simply summoned me and dragged me outside and hanged me on the balcony. Had I lost my grip, I was on the 15th floor… Suddenly many people who were there came and handled the situation. I kind of fainted, they gave me water. Then I realized how responsible we need to be when we go anywhere. So this was one incident where I felt I had a narrow escape. Had there been the slightest of memories, I would’ve fallen down,” he further recounted.

According to Chahal, just a few people were aware of the situation. If his hands had slipped, he conceded, things may have gone horribly wrong. A couple more people, however, entered the room and seized command of the situation.
