David Warner may have played his final game for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and his latest Instagram response on a fan’s post has everyone wondering whether this is the last time the Australian will play for the ‘Orange Army’ in the Indian Premier League.

Warner hasn’t had the best of IPL season, as the three-time Orange Cap winner struggled in the 14th edition. He began the 2021 season as captain, his fifth stint in charge of the SRH, but was fired after only one win in the first six games. The southpaw was replaced as captain by Kane Williamson, and he was shortly dropped from the starting XI.

Warner was pulled into the lineup when Jonny Bairstow withdrew before the start of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021, but he only managed two runs in as many games. Since then, he’s been confined to watching games from his hotel room as the Sunrisers picked up only their second win of the tournament.

Warner announced on Instagram that he will not be attending the match, implying that his IPL career with SRH is all but gone. Warner stayed at the hotel for a reason, according to Sunrisers coach Trevor Bayliss.

Bayliss was quoted by Cricinfo as saying, “We can’t make the final so we’ve made the choice that we want the young players to experience not just the matches but time at the ground, around the set-up, and for this match we’ve made the decision. He wasn’t the only experienced player we left at the hotel [the others were Kedar Jadhav and Shahbaz Nadeem].”

“We have a bunch of youngsters who have never gone to the field before. Even as back-ups, we wanted to give them the option to participate in it. That might go on for a few more games. We have no idea.

According to Bayliss, a decision on Warner’s future will be taken in the future. “Look, that hasn’t been discussed at all, has it?” “Bayliss remarked. “It’s something that, this is the final year before a major auction. Those judgments will be taken at a later date. For a number of years, he has been a valuable member of the SRH. With the number of runs he has scored, he is highly regarded. In the IPL, I’m confident he has a lot more runs in him.”
