Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel of India were disqualified from the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 competition on Monday as the BCCI selection committee announced their 15-man roster for the competition, which will start on August 27. Due to a rib ailment, Harshal previously missed the second and third Twenty20 Internationals in the current series against the West Indies. He was also passed over for the series opener earlier this month in Trinidad. Bumrah, meanwhile, was rested for India’s limited-overs trip to the West Indies and their forthcoming match against Zimbabwe after playing his final ODI for India in the away series in England.

Bumrah has been dealing with back problems, while Harshal is said to have strained his side while on the West Indies trip.

“Due to injury, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not eligible for selection. They are now receiving treatment at the NCA in Bengaluru, according to the BCCI’s statement.

Harshal recently played for India in the T20I series against England, when he picked up four wickets in 11 overs throughout three innings. He is now in Florida with the Indian squad for the West Indies series. Additionally, he participated in one T20I in Ireland and four home matches against South Africa, where he took eight wickets.

Since receiving his first cap in the home series against New Zealand in 2021, directly after the T20 World Cup, Harshal has been a key member of India’s T20I team. Harshal has made 17 appearances so far and has taken 23 wickets at an average of 20.95, which is tied for most with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The selection committee picked three standby players in addition to the 15-man roster that the BCCI announced for the Asia Cup. On the list are left-arm spinner Axar Patel, quick bowler Deepak Chahar, and batter Shreyas Iyer.
