The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee named India’s 15-person team for the T20 World Cup, which will start on October 16 in Australia, more than a week ago. The selectors did not make many changes to the squad that was previously announced for the Asia Cup as the team saw the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, both of whom had missed out owing to their respective injuries. One of the adjustments saw the promotion of a young Indian player to the traveling reserves squad, to which the great bowler has now responded with a cryptic message on his social media page.

In the crucial match against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage, where he finished with 1 for 26, young Ravi Bishnoi was selected for the Asia Cup team and even managed to play in the competition. In that game, he scored an unbeaten 8 runs, laced with two boundaries, and finished with a score of 1 for 26.

The 22-year-old was relegated to the World Cup standby list, however, as the selection committee chose one additional fast bowler in consideration of the Australian conditions. He joined Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, and Shreyas Iyer on the four-person stand-by list for the competition.

He posted a tale on his Instagram account, saying, “The sun will rise, and we shall try again.” Bishnoi was also left off the team for the domestic T20I series against Australia and South Africa. The teenage cricketer made his India debut earlier this year and has since played in as many as 10 matches, picking up 16 wickets with a 7.08 economy rate and a 14.5 strike rate.

In addition to Bishnoi, fast bowler Avesh Khan has been left off of India’s World Cup roster as selection committee members re-enter Mohammed Shami into the mix.
