Recap of how T20I series between India and South Africa played out

After the final match was called off owing to rain, the five-match T20I series between India and South Africa concluded in a 2-2 draw. The Men in Blue had a rollercoaster ride in this series, as they were defeated in the first two games before mounting a huge comeback in the following two games. Let’s take a look back at the five-match series.

1. The first T20I ended in a 7-wicket loss.

In the first T20I against the Proteas, Team India was thrashed by 7 wickets. When allowed to bat first, India performed well, scoring 211 runs in the first innings. In 48 balls, Ishan Kishan hammered 76 runs. Hardik Pandya’s rapid cameo of 31 runs off 12 balls aided him.

2. The match-winning duo of Miller and van der Dussen

The Proteas lost several wickets early on in their 212-run chase, putting them at 81/3 after 9 overs. The first T20I was won by South Africa by seven wickets, with two top-knocks by Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller. To lead Proteas to a record run chase, Van van Dussen slammed 75* off 46 balls, while Miller struck 64* off 31 balls.

3. The second T20I ended in a 4-wicket loss.

The Men in Blue battled with the bat when they were sent in to bat first, but Shreyas Iyer’s 40-run knock in 35 balls got them to 148/6. Dinesh Karthik followed suit, scoring 30 runs in 21 balls. Anrich Nortje took two wickets for the Proteas, while Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius, and Keshav Maharaj each took one.

4. Heinrich Klaasen lands a powerful blow.

Heinrich Klaasen struck 81 runs off 46 balls to lead South Africa to a four-wicket victory against India in the second Twenty20 International. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a pacer for India, was among the bowlers. In his four-over stint, he took four wickets and gave up just 13 runs.

5. Victory in the third T20I

In the third T20I, Team India set a goal of 180 runs after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan scored 57 and 54 runs, respectively. The Proteas could only muster 131 runs in response, as Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel took three and four wickets, respectively, to give Team India a 48-run triumph.

6. Dinesh Karthik and Avesh Khan assist the hosts in tying the series against the Proteas.

When the Indian team was sent in to bat, they got off to a bad start, losing four wickets in 13 overs and scoring just 81 runs. Dinesh Karthik rose to the occasion and scored 55 runs off only 27 balls. Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, scored 46 runs off 31 balls.

7. The four-wicket haul of Avesh Khan

South Africa could not even come close to achieving their target of 170 because they kept losing wickets. Avesh Khan was the standout of the bowlers, taking four wickets and guiding Team India to an 82-run victory.

8. Rain forced the cancellation of the 5th T20I.

Rain forced the cancellation of the fifth and final T20I between India and South Africa at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As a result, the series remains tied at 2-2 and will be split between the two teams. India was 28/2 in 3.3 overs when the rain stopped play, with Shreyas Iyer (0*) and Rishabh Pant (1*). Lungi Ngidi of the Proteas took both wickets.
