The IPL 2022 has seen the rise of a few talented young players who have turned heads. Several players have excelled with their performances in the present Indian Premier League, ranging from Ayush Badoni to Mohsin Khan. Some have been so excellent that veteran cricketers are looking forward to seeing their favorite player/s represent India. Umran Malik is one such cricketer, with calls for his selection growing stronger every time he steps onto the field. The 22-year-old pacer has turned it up, but has been inconsistent.

Kevin Pietersen, on the other hand, believes India should expedite Umran’s national call-up and include him in both white- and red-ball teams. Pietersen, in particular, wants Umran to be in India’s team for the rescheduled Test against England in Manchester in July, believing the teenager can do major damage to the hosts given England’s lack of expertise in dealing with lightning-quick speed.

“I’d pencil him in for the Test match against England in July if I were an India selection.” The England batsmen are presently facing 70mph seamers in county cricket, so they will not be looking forward to suddenly confronting 90-95mph bowling. He is the competition’s breakthrough star, and India would be foolish not to utilize him right immediately. There is no use in waiting for me. Malik should be considered for both the Test and white-ball teams in India. “No one appreciates having to deal with that type of speed,” Pietersen said on his Betway blog.

Umran has 17 wickets from 13 outings so far, and although conceding runs on occasion, the J&K bowler has cranked up the speedometer. In this year’s IPL, he has delivered the top five fastest deliveries, including the fastest of 157 kmph against Delhi Capitals. Umran’s best bowling figures of 5/25 came against Gujarat Titans, while he took 4/28 against Punjab Kings, including three wickets in the penultimate over.
