Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, may have just dropped a huge clue confirming the news that KL Rahul and his longtime girlfriend Athiya Shetty are getting married. Rohit addressed Rahul’s absence from the Indian playing XI and provided an explanation to Ravi Shastri for why the team’s batter is absent from India vs. New Zealand ODI series. Rahul is gone for “personal reasons,” according to Rohit, which further suggests that the 30-year-old is getting married to the actor.

Since Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are out injured, Rohit was questioned about his squad lineup by former India coach Shastri, who is back broadcasting for the New Zealand series. Rohit responded: “This pitch is nice, albeit a touch dry. To protect scores as we did against Sri Lanka, we must ensure that we bowl under lights. Within the team, everyone is pushing one another. KL Iyer is hurt, while Rahul and Axar Patel are absent for personal reasons. Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, and Hardik Pandya are all returning.”

For Rahul “This pitch is excellent, albeit a touch dry.

The wedding of Rahul and Athiya, scheduled for January 23, is now under full preparation. The outside of Rahul’s Mumbai residence has been tastefully decked with white lights. The wedding of Rahul and Athiya is anticipated to last three days and take place at actor Suniel Shetty’s property in Khandala.

Rahul’s absence provides Suryakumar Yadav, who regrettably isn’t in India’s Playing XI, with the chance of a lifetime. Suryakumar, who has been in outstanding form in T20Is, struck an unbeaten 112 against Sri Lanka in the third T20I but was left off the squad for the first two ODIs. Only after India had won the series did SKY get his opportunity, and in Thiruvananthapuram, he scored four runs. Surya may very easily put Rahul under strain with three good blows in this area.

As for Rahul, the India batter has been assigned a new position in the team – batting in the middle-order at No. 5 with Shreyas Iyer a spot above him. From opening the innings at the T20 World Cup, Rahul’s responsibility to provide stability to India’s middle order as the Men In Blue look to iron out plans for the ODI World Cup later this year at home. Rahul helped India win a difficult chase by scoring a half-century against Bangladesh and an unbeaten 64 against Sri Lanka in the second ODI.
