There is just one more week before the Asia Cup 2022 competition begins in the United Arab Emirates, but global cricket is already anticipating the highly-anticipated match between India and Pakistan, the game’s archrivals. On August 28, the two teams will square off at the Dubai International Stadium in what would be their first encounter since India’s sad 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan at the same location. And India captain Rohit Sharma offers his thoughts on the contest ahead of the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022 fixture in the UAE. (2nd ODI between India and Zimbabwe Live Score)

In their prior encounter at the same location, which served as their first match of the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan defeated India in a match for the first time in World Cup history, with the contributions of skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Speaking to Star Sports before the big game, Rohit acknowledged that it would be a “high-pressure game,” but he also said that he and coach Rahul Dravid would constantly remind the players that it was just a game, and they would work to keep the tension surrounding the match with Pakistan low in the locker room.

“Everyone is watching the game, particularly Pakistan vs. India. Undoubtedly, this is a high-pressure game, but in the group, we want to foster a relaxed attitude and avoid inflating the importance of this game. For us, it’s simply a cricket match. Rahul bhai and I must convey to the players that this is just another opponent,” he remarked.

India, which has won the Asia Cup trophy seven times, will enter the competition as reigning champions. Additionally, they have an impressive head-to-head record versus Pakistan in the Asia Cup, having beaten them eight times in 14 encounters. In their previous six matches, they had won five of those games. India recently fell to Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Mirpur in 2014.
