The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa is nearing its conclusion, with the series decider due to take place on Sunday in Bengaluru. The series marked the start of India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup in 2022. Before the T20 World Cup roster is chosen, the side must play 10 more T20I matches over three series, but India great Ashish Nehra believes Dinesh Karthik has already cemented his position in the team.

For the first time since the 2019 ODI World Cup, Karthik has returned to the Indian side, after an excellent IPL 2022 season. He has smashed 92 runs in the series with a strike rate of 158.6 and a boundary rate of 3.8 balls. In the slog overs, 84 of those runs were scored at a strike rate of 186.7, with a boundary per 3.2 balls. He also has a fifty to his name, which he scored in the fourth T20I encounter on his way to a 27-ball 55.
