Harshal Patel, an all-rounder, was acquired for a substantial price of INR 10.75 crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the team with whom he began his IPL career. RCB lost no time in bidding for the 31-year-old all-rounder as soon as his name came up for auction. On the other hand, Patel found takers in a variety of franchisees.

The Chennai Super Kings made the first proposal to him but withdrew when the price hit INR 4.40 crore. However, when the Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the picture, the RCB were not reunited with their top wicket-taker from last year right away, and the bidding went neck-and-neck for a while until the RCB ultimately outbid them to get Harshal Patel for a massive amount of INR 10.75 crore. It is so good to see many teams being faithful to their old players, unlike CSK, who left Suresh Raina out in the cold.

“They essentially informed me that if we keep you, we’ll have to pay you 6 crore and remove 9 crores from our budget since you’ll be the fourth player. So we don’t want to do that; instead, we’d like you to earn that money at the auction, and we’ll do all we can to get you back. That was the sole contact,” Harshal told Cricket Live ahead of the Day 2 auction.

“When they traded me back from Delhi, they gave me a chance and a responsibility that I wasn’t expecting to fulfil,” he remarked of being reunited with the RCB. “They believed in me and saw something in me, which meant a lot. The price is certainly high, but the level of trust they have placed in me is significant,” he continued.
