Harbhajan Singh, a former star for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has provided crucial guidance for the two-time IPL champions on how to secure the services of a star performer for the upcoming season of the lucrative league. Shreyas Iyer, the white-ball renegade, served as the team’s captain as former champions KKR finished the IPL 2022’s forgettable season. Due to the Kolkata-based team’s seventh-place finish in the points standings, KKR was unable to advance to the IPL 2022 playoffs.

Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who broke out in the IPL 2021 as its breakout star, had a terrible season in 2017. For the Iyer-led team in the IPL 2022, the franchise’s star batter from Kolkata struggled. In the run-up to the mega auction last season, KKR retained Venkatesh for a staggering sum of INR 8 crore. After a disappointing season, former KKR player Harbhajan believes the Kolkata heavyweights shouldn’t cut ties with the young talent.

“They shouldn’t conduct a broad release. The player is destructive, so you ought to release him and, if at all possible, get him back at a discount. In the seven or eight matches he played, we witnessed a brief trailer, “During a debate on the Game Plan segment of the Star Sports show, Harbhajan expressed his opinions. Speaking of his time with KKR, Harbhajan revealed that the franchise’s think tank used to make sure Venkatesh received one or two overs during crucial games.

“Based on those seven or eight games, he played amazingly well and also represented India. He bowls in addition to that. That he wasn’t invited to bowl last year surprised me. When we were in Dubai along with him, we made sure that he bowls one or two overs when the match used to get stuck,” Harbhajan added. Last season, Venkatesh scored 182 runs for KKR in 12 games.
