The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed on Friday that Indian middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari has been added to the India ‘A’ team for their forthcoming tour of South Africa. He had previously been left out of India’s senior men’s squad for the two-match Test series against New Zealand. The explanation behind the decision was not explained, but it has now been confirmed.

Vihari will be a member of the ‘A’ squad, which will compete in three four-day games beginning November 23. His most recent encounter was in Sydney, when he scored a critical century to help India save the Test match on Day 5. If Ajinkya Rahane’s form continues to deteriorate, the Hyderabadi is expected to be a probable option. With India poised to play South Africa in a crucial three-match series in December, the management made a wise decision to allow Vihari to get some experience.

The ‘A’ team will be captained by Priyank Panchal. Dashing openers Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal, speedsters Navdeep Saini and Umran Malik, and leg-spinning prodigy Rahul Chahar are among the squad’s famous names.
