The rights to own and operate the Dubai franchise in the UAE T20 League have been acquired by GMR Group, an Indian infrastructure company that also co-owns IPL team Delhi Capitals. The six-team league’s next season is still on schedule to begin later this year.

“UAE continues to impress with its progressive, positive mindset toward sport and the business of sport,” said GM Rao, GMR’s group chairman. “We believe these traits align well with our group strategy to support sports from grass-roots to international level while being effective in engaging with the community. Our group is confident that the proposed structure and plans for the UAE T20 League will take advantage of the UAE’s unique characteristics. Through our Delhi Capitals team’s involvement in the Indian Premier League (IPL), our team has 14 seasons of experience managing the franchise process, and we will integrate the same elements of these processes into the UAE T20 League and help establish it as a premier and integral part of the global cricket ecosystem.”
