In the first game of the series on Tuesday at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, took against Aaron Finch’s Australia as part of the ICC World T20 2022 dress rehearsals. Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel’s comeback gave Rohit the confidence to choose a star-studded playing XI for the Men in Blue in the series opener against Australia.

Following the coin toss, Rohit informed that India would play the first encounter of the three-match T20I series without paceman Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that India would miss the services of star bowler Bumrah despite their tactical adjustments for the first T20I.

“Well, I believe these six matches will help them attempt to grasp what keeps them working as a team, and of course, Bumrah’s absence will be felt greatly. But in the broader perspective, I believe India must have a healthy Bumrah for the World Cup. We always want to see the larger picture, and the World Cup is that greater picture. After Australia won the toss and decided to field, Gavaskar told Star Sports, “I believe trying to keep him fit is crucial.

Gavaskar said that the talented wicketkeeper-batter would have an opportunity in the remaining games of the series in response to Pant’s exclusion. In the T20I series against Australia and South Africa, Gavaskar believes the Indian team would give Pant and Dinesh Karthik a similar opportunity to demonstrate their batting prowess.

“Pant will play in the last five games, so far as that is concerned. My gut tells me to try to divide it between the two wicketkeepers so they may each get a chance to demonstrate their bat-finishing abilities. Let’s not focus too much on the omission of Pant from the squad; rather, Gavaskar said, “I believe they are trying to, as I mentioned previously, get their core team together (for the World Cup).”
