The Sri Lankan team’s skipper, Dasun Shanaka, is presently securing victories in T20 International games. He produced a thunderous 56 off 22 balls in the second T20I against the hosts and took two wickets to clinch Player of the Match. His all-around performance allowed the visitors to square the series before the third and final T20I on Saturday.

Shanaka (base price 50 lakhs) went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction even though all-rounders were in high demand and players like Sam Curran, Cameron Green, and Ben Stokes broke the bank with their outrageous offers. Despite there being no takers for him in the T20 extravaganza, he is now the player with the highest number of runs scored in the T20I series against India. The 31-year-astonishing old’s strike rate of 206.12 has allowed him to score 101 runs in only two games. With two wickets under his belt, he now holds the fourth-highest place among series wicket-takers.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir considered Shanaka’s possibilities in the IPL auction if it took place right now. In an interview with Star Sports, he said that the Sri Lanka all-rounder would have brought in a large sum of money if the current IND-SL series had taken place during the auctions.

“Given the way he has batted, he would be extremely expensive, and I won’t have any money. The auction is mostly focused on that. There’s a good chance that some of the franchises wouldn’t have had the money to buy him if this series had happened just before the auction “said Gambir.

While all is going on, Sri Lanka will be motivated to win the series when they play India on Saturday. Following the Twenty20 Internationals on Tuesday, January 10, the visitors will play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series.
