Star all-rounder R Ashwin joined the team on Thursday, just before the start of India’s tour match against Leicestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground in Leicester, giving Team India a significant boost at the start of their tour of England.

Due to a positive COVID-19 test, Ashwin was unable to accompany the rest of the squad to England for the fifth test that was postponed and is now scheduled to be played from July 1 to July 5. On June 16, the rest of the squad departed for England, and the seasoned bowler was immediately placed in quarantine.

But Ashwin went to England earlier this week and joined the Indian team in Leicester before the practice game started. This was after he had recovered from COVID-19 and taken care of all the necessary paperwork. While the BCCI did not officially announce Ashwin’s inclusion in the team, the Indian team’s Twitter account did post images of the team before their match against Leicestershire, in which Ashwin could be seen.
