Faf du Plessis, the talismanic former captain of South Africa, has been selected as the icon player and captain of the Bangla Tigers for the forthcoming fifth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 league.

Faf has recently returned to the field after a two-month hiatus. After receiving a concussion during a match, he was ruled out of the Pakistan Super League. Due to colliding with his Quetta Gladiators teammate Mohammad Hasnain, he was wounded. He captained St Lucia Kings against Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League on Friday after his recovery.

“It’s a thrilling new experience to be a part of. In this competition, I’m looking forward to working with some of the biggest personalities in the globe and representing the Bangla Tigers. The game of cricket is about to enter a fascinating period. It’s inspiring to watch sports leagues like T10 put in so much effort and provide such intriguing options for sports fans. I’m excited to get started.”, Faf stated.

The event is being held at the Zayed Cricket Stadium from November 19 to December 2 in Abu Dhabi under the auspices of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and with the official consent of the International Cricket Council (ICC). In a career that began in 2011, Du Plessis has played 69 Tests, 143 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for South Africa. In all three formats, he has also captained South Africa.

“It’s fantastic to have a player of Faf’s calibre in our lineup. In various formats, we’ve all watched his achievements for South Africa. He is a world-class cricketer “Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury, the owner of the Bangla Tigers, remarked.

In the previous season, the Bangla Tigers were unable to qualify for the playoffs.

This time, Faf’s appointment might help them out. The Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup will both be held in the UAE this year. Dubai might possibly host a new T20 franchise competition in January-February.
