England Test captain Ben Stokes and former skipper Joe Root have been appointed to the team that will face India in a three-match series beginning July 12 and ending July 17. The England and Wales Cricket Board has revealed the teams for India’s white-ball portion of their tour to the nation, which also includes a three-match T20I series from July 7 to 10.

Following the retirement of Eoin Morgan, this will be England’s first series under new white-ball captain Jos Buttler. The two sides are now playing the fifth Test of the series, which India currently leads 2-1, which was postponed last year because to COVID-19 instances in the visitors’ camp.

Root’s last ODI for England will be against Sri Lanka on July 4, 2021. Meanwhile, Stokes last played a white-ball game for England on July 13, 2021, in an ODI against Pakistan. Stokes, who wasn’t entirely fit at the time, had functioned as the team’s de facto captain when an epidemic of Covid-19 in the home camp drove several of the players to isolate themselves. Both players are not in the team for the T20I series.

The ECB also announced that spinner Adil Rashid would miss the one-day series after being granted permission to perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
