During the second Test of the series against Bangladesh, Team India’s seasoned bowler Jaydev Unadkat finally had the opportunity to return to Test XI. Unadkat last played in a Test match for India against South Africa at Centurion in 2010, the same year that he also made his Test debut. The left-arm bowler failed to pick up a wicket as the game came to a close, and he didn’t play again until December 22, 2022, when Kuldeep Yadav was replaced in the starting lineup in Dhaka.

When Unadkat rejoined the Indian Test team after a 12-year break, he broke the record for the longest interval between appearances in a Test match for India. Unadkat surpassed Dinesh Karthik’s previous record of 87 Test absences for the national side by missing 118 before rejoining the team. In terms of total performance, Unadkat trails only England’s Gareth Batty, who missed 142 Tests.

Here is a list (top 5)

Unadkat, a domestic cricket player for Saurashtra, received recognition for his steady performance.

Unadkat ended as Saurashtra’s top wicket-taker in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy with 67 dismissals in only 16 innings. That season, Unadkat, the team’s captain, played a crucial role in Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy victory.

Earlier in the second Test, Bangladesh had won the toss and decided to bat against India in Dhaka. At the first match in Chattogram, the Indian side defeated the hosts by a margin of 188 runs, with significant contributions coming from Kuldeep Yadav (8 wickets), Cheteshwar Pujara (90 and 102* across two innings), and Shubman Gill (110 in the second innings).

At the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, India, which is now in second place in the World Test Championship, would want to keep it there by easily defeating Bangladesh.
