Dinesh Karthik played the IPL playoffs after taking injections: TNCA secretary
After receiving injections, veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik participated in the 2021 Indian Premier League playoffs, according to Tamil Nadu Cricket Association secretary S Ramaswami. Karthik is expected to miss the upcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq T20 Trophy, which begins on November 4. He is believed to be suffering from a knee injury.
Due to Karthik’s inability to lead Tamil Nadu in the domestic tournament, Vijay Shankar has been appointed as the team’s captain. In the opening game of their campaign, Tamil Nadu will face Maharashtra. On November 24, the league final is set to take place. “After taking injections, Karthik participated in the IPL playoffs (for Kolkata Knight Riders). As a result, we’ve appointed Vijay Shankar as captain,” Ramaswami stated.
Karthik’s performance for the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 IPL was not very impressive. He had a strike rate of 131.17 and a batting average of 22.30 in 15 innings.
He only managed nine runs in the final on Friday, October 15, when Ravindra Jadeja took his wicket. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Knight Riders were defeated by the Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs.
Karthik last played international cricket against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-finals in 2019. After that, he was dropped from the team. Karthik was also seen weaving his magic in the commentary box in 2021, earning acclaim from the game’s greats.
Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has also been ruled out of the SMAT’s 2021 edition. The tweaker was unable to play in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore after missing the series against England.
The National Cricket Academy’s head, Rahul Dravid, indicated that he will require some additional time to reach full fitness.
“I spoke with Rahul Dravid about Washi, and he said the player is still not ready. Rahul has told us not to rush him, and we are following his advice,” Ramaswami continued.
