For the second leg of the IPL 2021, Australian all-rounder Ben Dwarshuis has joined Delhi Capitals (DC) as Chris Woakes’ replacement. Woakes has withdrawn from the rest of the IPL for personal reasons, joining Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Jonny Bairstow, Punjab Kings’ Dawid Malan, and Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler in doing so. Woakes had five wickets in three games for Capitals in the first half of the season.

Dwarshuis will “join the Delhi Capitals team bio-bubble in the UAE soon,” according to a statement from the Capitals. Dwarshuis will be playing in his second IPL season, having previously been a member of the Punjab Kings in 2018.

Ben Dwarshuis is a left-arm bowler and a hard-hitting lower-order batsman from Australia. The 27-year-old is a Big Bash League player for the Sydney Sixers. He made his BBL debut in 2014, and during that season he was able to take 13 wickets. The 27-year-old is also one of the tournament’s most successful bowlers, with 85 wickets at an average of 22.99 and an economy rate of 8.05 in 69 BBL games, making him the tournament’s sixth-highest wicket-taker.

The Delhi Capitals, led by Rishabh Pant, had an impressive first phase of the Indian Premier League 2021, finishing as the table toppers with six victories in eight games when the season was interrupted. The squad will become stronger with the return of Shreyas Iyer, and they will be one of the top candidates to win the title this season.

Delhi Capitals’ players who travelled to England with the Indian Test squad arrived in Dubai on Sunday. R Ashwin, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav all tested negative for Covid-19 upon arrival.
