Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian cricketer, has urged Dinesh Karthik to return to the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup. Karthik is expected to return to T20I cricket in the home series against South Africa and the England visit, according to Gavaskar. After the IPL, India will host South Africa for a five-match T20I series at home. After that, India will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England.

“The way the IPL is going for him right now, I feel he should be very much in the race for an India berth in the October tournament, maybe even earlier for South Africa, for England,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.

Karthik has been in outstanding form for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022, performing the finisher’s position. Karthik has 274 runs in 12 matches for the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. His strike rate, though, has been the most outstanding aspect of his hitting. Karthik has a strike rate of 200 runs per hundred balls.

Gavaskar said that he would consider Karthik for the No. 6 or 7 spot, where he has primarily batted in the IPL this season. “I would absolutely look at him as a batsman who can come in at No. 6 or No. 7 and take the game away from the opponent, as he is doing for RCB,” Gavaskar continued. Karthik was keen to return to the Indian team even while undertaking commentary jobs, according to the former India captain.
