Daryl Mitchell, an all-rounder, has been named to the New Zealand Test squad for the two-match Test series against India, which begins on November 25, 2021. Mitchell will take the place of Devon Conway, who is out with an injury, in the Test lineup. After being dismissed in the semifinal against England, Conway whacked his willow, injuring his hand. Conway has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup final as well as the ensuing series against India on the subcontinent due to his injury. The absence of Conway, according to New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead, provides Mitchell with an opportunity to show off his abilities. Mitchell, according to Stead, is a flexible cricketer who is now confident and is a proven performer in Test cricket.

“It’s unfortunate that Devon will miss the first series of the new World Test Championship cycle, but it also means that someone else will have a chance. Daryl’s versatility allows him to play a variety of positions at the plate, and he exudes confidence right now”, according to Cricbuzz, Stead said, “He’s demonstrated he can play in Test cricket, and I know he’s thrilled to rejoin the Test squad.”

In the T20 World Cup 2021, Daryl Mitchell has been in excellent form with the willow. The right-hander is the Black Caps’ leading run-scorer in the competition, with 197 runs at an average of 39.40 and a strike rate of over 140. India and New Zealand will play a three-match T20I series starting on November 17th, 2021, immediately following the completion of the T20 World Cup. Following that, the Black Caps will play India in a two-match Test series. The tour of India by New Zealand will end on December 7, 2021.
