Chahar set to miss majority of IPL 2022
The defending IPL winners, Chennai Super Kings, have been handed a severe blow ahead of the 2022 season, as their leading pacer Deepak Chahar is expected to miss a significant portion, if not the entire competition.
Chahar, who tore his quadriceps in the third T20I against West Indies last month, would need several weeks to recover, which means he could miss the IPL, which runs from March 26 to May 29. The Super Kings are reportedly awaiting a final assessment from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where Chahar is receiving rehabilitation. Chahar, 29, was the second-most expensive player purchased in the 2022 player auction, when the Super Kings paid INR 14 crore (US$1.866 million) for him. Due to his success as a bowling allrounder, Chahar’s bid was one of the most hotly fought at the auction. Chahar’s batting prowess was on display in his past three One-Day Internationals, with match-winning performances of 69* (against Sri Lanka), 54 (against South Africa), and 38 (against Pakistan) (against West Indies).
