Ravi Ashwin, a seasoned tweaker, returned to the white-ball outfit in last year’s T20 World Cup, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Rahul Chahar the other two spinners. Cut to the current day, and the Indian team management has two familiar names vying for a spot in this year’s T20 extravaganza in Australia.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, who were previously important cogs in India’s wheel, have had a great IPL season thus far. With 22 wickets, Chahal leads the Purple Cap race, while Kuldeep is second with 18 catches. Both tweakers have had their share of spectacular moments. Chahal took four wickets, including a hat-trick, against Kolkata Knight Riders, while Kuldeep won four player-of-the-match honours for his new Delhi Capitals team.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh welcomed the reintroduction of ‘Kul-Cha’ for the T20 World Cup in 2022, claiming that the selectors should not have divided the spin tandem.

“I don’t know why they (selectors) broke that partnership which was doing well for India. I certainly believe that you have to bring ‘Kulcha’ back, Kuldeep and Yuzvendra, I think they have been brilliant for team India,” Harbhajan said during the launch event of Dream Set Go.

“When they played together, they took wickets in the middle overs, whether it was T20s, ODIs, or any format, they played together, they were very successful,” Harbhajan further added.

Chahal has been enjoying the growth of the Rajasthan Royals this season. He was not retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2022 IPL season, but the Royals acquired him in the February auction for 6.5 crore. In terms of Kuldeep, the chinaman bowler only appeared in five games for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 and did not appear in any games the following year. However, in his first season with the Capitals, he has 18 wickets to his name, including a four-fer against his previous club Kolkata.
