The Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed West Indies legend Brian Lara as their head coach after parting ways with Tom Moody on Saturday. When he was a member of the SRH squad, Lara worked as the franchise’s batting consultant and strategic advisor in the 2022 Indian Premier League. For the forthcoming IPL seasons, according to the Sunrisers’ official Twitter account, Lara will serve as head coach.

For the first time, Lara will be in charge of a T20 team at this point. ESPNCricinfo claims there was a mutual decision to part ways between Tom Moody and SRH. After that, Moody was appointed the International League T20 franchise Desert Vipers’ director of cricket. Following a terrible 2021 season, Moody had taken over as head coach earlier this year, replacing Trevor Bayliss. The former Australian cricketer was unable to improve Sunrisers’ IPL standing, as they came in ninth this year. Six of the 14 games were won by SRH.

Even though their rookie pacer Umran Malik had a breakout season, SRH’s struggles with skipper Kane Williamson’s erratic performance throughout the season prevented them from qualifying for the playoffs. The similar injuries that Hyderabad’s two Indian players, T Natarajan and Washington Sundar, sustained eventually proved important to the success of their campaign.

Muttiah Muralitharan, a Sri Lankan, is the team’s spin-bowling and strategy coach, while Dale Steyn, a famed South African fast bowler, is the team’s bowling coach. The previous season, they finished bottom in the standings, winning only three of their 14 games, making it the worst two seasons in team history. Brian Lara’s new role as head coach will provide him with a difficult task.
