VVS Laxman to succeed Rahul Dravid as new NCA chief: Reports

According to ANI, Indian batting legend VVS Laxman has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Rahul Dravid as Director of the National Cricket Academy. With a recent pattern of NCA chiefs and Indian coaches working closely together, Indian cricket may once again see a Dravid-Laxman partnership. During their playing careers, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman created several match-defining partnerships. In the second innings of the 2001 Eden Gardens Test against Australia, the two put on a 376-run partnership, the fourth highest in Test history.

In fact, it was their collaboration that helped India become only the third team in the game’s history to win a match while being forced to follow-on. If and when Laxman takes over as captain, the Indian cricket administration may be able to see the two functioning together. The next Indian coach, Rahul Dravid, was announced earlier this week.

According to an ANI source, not only the BCCI president, but also Secretary Jay Shah and other senior authorities want Laxman to take over as NCA. With Sourav Ganguly as President of the BCCI, Laxman’s appointment will reunite the Ganguly, Dravid, and Laxman triumvirate.

“Both Sourav and Jay would like Laxman to take over as NCA. However, because he has a young family, the former India cricketer must make the final decision. He is unquestionably a front-runner for the job, and he has been known to have a unique bond with current coach Dravid. It will be an ideal pairing for those two to work together to move Indian cricket ahead. There’s nothing like bringing in past cricketers to assist develop the next generation of players,” a BCCI insider told ANI.

After Dravid was named the head coach of the senior men’s squad, VVS Laxman congratulated him. “Exactly the correct person for the task! Rahul Dravid has devoted his life to Indian cricket. I am confident that as he takes over as head coach for a new inning, he will lead the squad forward and upward. Best wishes for a long and enjoyable stand to my partner!!,”, According to the Sunrisers Hyderabad coach.

When asked about his new position as head coach, Dravid replied, “It is a great honour to be named the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, and I am really excited to take on this responsibility. The team has performed admirably under Shastri’s leadership, and I look forward to working with them to continue this trend. Having worked closely with the majority of the guys at the NCA, U19, and India A levels, I know they are driven to progress every day. In the next two years, there are some major multi-team events, and I’m looking forward to working with the players and support personnel to reach our full potential.”
