For more than a decade, Virat Kohli has been the lynchpin of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. The RCB captain has withstood multiple bowling attempts with aplomb, cementing his reputation as one of the finest willow wielders in IPL history. Kohli’s IPL narrative will have another wonderful chapter added to it when he takes the field for the RCB team against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on September 20, 2021.

Kohli will make his 200th appearance for RCB in IPL cricket, making him the first player from the Bangalore team to do so. The right-hander has amassed an astounding 5 hundreds in IPL cricket and is now the greatest run-scorer in the tournament (6076 runs).

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, isn’t the first player to appear in 200 IPL games. MS Dhoni now holds the record for most matches played in the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain has appeared in 212 IPL matches and scored 4672 runs in the competition. Rohit Sharma (207 matches), Dinesh Karthik (203 matches), and Suresh Raina (200 matches) are the other three players who have played over 200 matches (201 matches).

Kohli’s achievement is made even more remarkable by the fact that he would become the first cricketer to play 200 IPL matches for a single team. Kohli has also confirmed that he will step down as RCB captain after the 2021 IPL season. Kohli, on the other hand, stated that he will continue to play for the RCB till the end of the IPL season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team is presently in third place in the points standings, having won five of the seven matches it has played so far in the tournament.
