After the T20 World Cup 2021, Tom Moody hopes to succeed Ravi Shastri as India's head coach

Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021, Tom Moody, the Director of Cricket for Sunrisers Hyderabad, is eyeing a replacement for Ravi Shastri as Team India’s head coach. In fact, it’s been stated that removing David Warner as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain was part of Moody’s plot.

For the uninitiated, Warner, SRH’s captain at the start of the season, was fired midway through the season due to the team’s poor performance in the first few games.

Not only that, but the swashbuckling opener was demoted from the starting lineup as Kane Williamson took over as captain. Warner is one of the most successful batters in IPL history, therefore the decision by the team management was stunning. In actuality, he just led SRH to their first IPL championship in 2016.

While both Moody and SRH head coach Trevor Bayliss have stated that the decision was made to improve the team’s fortunes, foxsports.com.au reports that Moody sacked Warner to improve his chances of becoming India’s next head coach.

The Sunrisers’ owners are thought to be powerful individuals in the BCCI, which could explain why Warner has been benched for the previous half-dozen matches in favour of youngsters. “A number of other IPL franchises have approached Warner, startled that the run-scoring juggernaut has been sidelined,” according to the newspaper.

An expanded 18-person team was brought to the match-day locations in accordance with Covid-19 standards. Bayliss stated that the decision was made to give new players an opportunity since SRH is out of the playoff race.

“We won’t be able to make the final, so we’ve decided to give the young players more opportunities to spend time at the ground, around the set-up, and we’ve taken that decision for this match (against KKR),” Bayliss had added.
