Suryakumar, Shaw to join Indian squad in England for Test series

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are scheduled to join the Indian side in the United Kingdom, after the national selectors and BCCI agreed to the team management’s request for reinforcements for the upcoming series against England.

Following a string of injuries that have ruled Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan out of the Test series, India have attempted to bolster their playing contingent in the United Kingdom.

Ajinkya Rahane’s hamstring ailment would keep the team worried, therefore Suryakumar’s forceful batting may be employed at some time throughout the series. In any case, KL Rahul will bat in the middle order in Nottingham if Ajinkya misses the first Test. The team’s management remains optimistic that Ajinkya will be fit for the Nottingham Test.

The names of Suryakumar and Shaw were reportedly narrowed down by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee after a meeting with head coach Ravi Shastri. There was apparently a request for a third player, but no word on whether or not another player will be flown over to England.

Suryakumar and Shaw’s trip route and origin are still unknown. Both are now in Sri Lanka with Shikhar Dhawan’s white ball team, and they are still available for the T20I series, which begins on Sunday (July 25). Surprisingly, until Saturday morning, few members of the Indian team in Sri Lanka appeared to be aware of this development.
