South Africa to tour Sri Lanka for limited-overs series in September

In September, the South African cricket team will travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series tour. Three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty-20 Internationals (T20Is) will be played between September 2 and September 14.

All six games are set to take place at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium. The series, which will take place a month before the T20 World Cup, will provide an excellent opportunity for both teams to prepare.

The last time South Africa visited Sri Lanka for a white-ball series was in 2018, when the visitors won the five-match One-Day International series 3-2. The one-off T20I was won by Sri Lanka.

Cricket South Africa’s acting CEO Pholetsi Moseki said, “We are delighted to have another tour confirmed for the Proteas men’s team with the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner. Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for our team to prepare for this event and we are grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for accommodating us during this time of the year where schedules are highly condensed,”.

Given both teams’ present strength, South Africa is the clear favourite to win this series. The Proteas have won their last two T20I series against the West Indies and Ireland and would like to keep their winning streak going. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, may have gained a lot of confidence after defeating India 2-1 in the previous T20I series.

Wanindu Hasaranga and Tabraiz Shamsi, who have risen in the T20 bowling rankings, are likely to be standout performers on Sri Lanka’s slow pitches.

4 September: 2nd ODI

7 September: 3rd ODI
