Shubman Gill recovers from injury, set to travel to UAE for IPL 2021

Shubman Gill has healed from his injury and is expected to be eligible for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which begins on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

Gill had returned to India from England after suffering a shin injury that had forced him to miss the entire five-match series. Gill is expected to go out to the United Arab Emirates soon after spending a week at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

When the BCCI revealed Gill’s injury last month, there was a clear statement that suggested he had concerns with his left lower leg. For the first Test against England, India had to call in Prithvi Shaw as a replacement opener, with KL Rahul opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. Given how well KL Rahul has done in the present series in England, Gill may have difficulty returning to the Test XI.

In the first half of the IPL 2021, Gill did not have a particularly good showing. For Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he scored 132 runs at a strike rate of 117.85 in seven innings. KKR are currently in eighth place, with only four points from seven games.

As the IPL returns to the UAE after a great season last year, a total of 31 matches will be contested over the course of 27 days. The action turns to Abu Dhabi after the IPL’s “El Clasico” in Dubai, with two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The games will be held in three locations: Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. Sharjah will host ten games, while Dubai will host thirteen and Abu Dhabi will host eight.
