Shafali Verma, Sneh Rana nominated for ICC 'Player of the Month' award

Following their outstanding performances in the tour against England, India’s batting sensation Shafali Verma and all-rounder Sneh Rana were nominated for the ICC women’s ‘Player of the Month’ award for June on Wednesday (July 7).

Sophie Ecclestone, England’s left-arm spinner, has also been nominated for the award in the women’s category, with the Indian tandem.

New Zealand batsman Devon Conway and bowler Kyle Jamieson, as well as South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, are among the men’s nominees.

Shafali, who had already wowed everyone in the game’s shortest version, made a sensational Test debut against England and was voted Player of the Encounter in the Bristol match. With 96 and 63 respectively, the vivacious youngster became the first Indian woman and the fourth from any country to score half-centuries in both innings of a debut Test.

Her first-inning score was the highest ever by an Indian woman in her debut season. In two One-Day Internationals against England, she scored 59 runs at an 85.50 strike rate.

Meanwhile, Rana had a remarkable Test debut at Bristol, scoring an unbroken 80 off 154 deliveries to help India avoid defeat after being forced to follow on. She had four for 131 earlier in the match, including well-set opener Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, among others. In an ODI against the same team, she took one for 43.
