Seven members of the Bengal Ranji Trophy team test positive for Covid-19

Seven Bengal players have tested positive for COVID-19 before the Ranji Trophy. Sudip Chatterjee, Anustup Majumdar, Kazi Junaid Saifi, Geet Puri, Pradipta Pramanik, Surajit Yadav, and assistant coach Sourasish Lahiri have all got the illness and are presently in isolation, according to Sportstar.

“The majority of them took part in the warm-up game, and as soon as the results came back positive, they were placed in isolation. They’re all asymptomatic “a source from the Bengal Cricket Association claimed.

“In light of the present pandemic crisis, the Bengal Cricket Association performed RT PCR tests on all Bengal players as a precaution. The findings have been released, and it has been discovered that certain players tested positive. In this respect, the CAB is taking all required safeguards and procedures “Snehasish Ganguly, CAB secretary, said.

While the other players have tested negative, this is a significant setback for the squad before the Ranji Trophy starts on January 13. Bengal, along with Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, and Tripura, is in Group B. Bengaluru will host the team’s matches.

On Tuesday, January 4, the state association will have an Emergency Apex Council to assess the current COVID-19 situation and make any required decisions about local competitions (First Division, Second Division and District tournaments).

All local tournaments presently in progress have been placed on hold by the CAB until the Emergency Apex Council meeting is convened. The organization will continue to keep a close eye on the issue and make necessary choices as needed.
