Ranji Trophy will go ahead as planned: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, president of the BCCI, announced on Monday that the forthcoming Ranji Trophy will be held as scheduled. The rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country has sparked concerns over the tournament’s future, but Ganguly reaffirmed that the Ranji Trophy will go ahead as planned.

“Yes, the Ranji Trophy will go forward as scheduled,” Ganguly said to ANI. The Ranji Trophy will be held from January 13 through March 20. The neutral group stage matches as well as the knockouts will be held in Kolkata. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had declared earlier in the day that the First Division, Second Division, and District competitions would be postponed after certain players tested positive for COVID-19.

The CAB also announced the formation of an Emergency Apex Council to make critical decisions and assess the present COVID situation. “The CAB is also taking immediate steps to vaccinate the registered players who fall into the 15-18 age group,” an official CAB announcement stated, “because the health and safety of the Cricketers and all concerned is vital to the association.”
