Rahul Dravid named as Team India's head coach, and Paras Mhambrey appointed as the bowling coach

Former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid has been named as Team India’s head coach, succeeding Ravi Shastri, whose stint ends after the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2021. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and honorary secretary Jay Shah met with Dravid in Dubai and begged with him to take leadership of the national squad, according to sources.

Dravid’s appointment was announced by a BCCI official following the conclusion of the 2021 Indian Premier League final on Friday, October 15. Dravid was the head coach of Team India when they visited Sri Lanka for a bilateral ODI and T20I series a few months ago. Dravid’s tenure as the chairman of the National Cricket Academy will also come to an end, according to reports.

Dravid has stated that he will be the Indian team’s next head coach. The officer was quoted in The Times of India as adding, “He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon.”

Dravid, famously known as ‘The Wall’ of Indian cricket, has been signed to a two-year contract with a salary of INR 10 crores, according to sources. In addition, lieutenant Paras Mhambrey has been named as Team India’s bowling coach, succeeding Bharat Arun. Even though Vikram Rathour has been retained as the batting coach, no decision has been taken on who will replace fielding coach R Sridhar.

After the World Cup, Dravid and India’s new coaching staff are anticipated to take over for India’s home campaign against New Zealand, which begins after the World Cup.

“Last month, he was re-appointed as the head of the NCA. The BCCI, on the other hand, required a strong contender to lead Indian cricket forward. He has put forth a lot of effort to create the future generation of Indian cricketers. Even Mhambrey knows the players in the following group like the back of his hand. As a result, Ganguly and Shah decided that bringing both of them on board would be the best option. After the World Cup, they will take over the New Zealand series,” a BCCI insider stated.
