Dhoni's International cricket return in doubt

BCCI have made it clear that the upcoming IPL 2020 has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 outbreak. One player who has been severely impacted by the IPL’s postponement is the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The CSK heartthrob has been out of action since last year’s World Cup and was counting on a good IPL season to force his international comeback.

However, the Indian Premier League was scheduled to begin from March, but the tournament had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before the tournament was suspended, The right-handed batsman was seen practicing at the training grounds with the team and working hard to bounce back at the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings.

Former India wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra says that there is still no decision taken on this year’s IPL season so it makes it even more difficult for Dhoni to make a return in international cricket. It has been a long time since Dhoni played competitive cricket.

On Sunday, Kiren Rijiju, India’s Sports Minister said that it is the government that would decide if the IPL would happen, and not the BCCI.

We can see that the pace of how COVID-19 is spreading much faster. As per the data obtained from the Worldometer, more than 4 thousand people in India have lost their lives due to the pandemic coronavirus. In this critical situation, the fate of IPL is stuck in limbo.

With IPL uncertain of its return, Cricket fans all over the world may remember MS Dhoni’s unfortunate run-out against New Zealand in last year’s World Cup as his last cricketing moment.
