Mark Butcher chooses Jason Roy over David Warner for match against DC

The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021’s second round in Dubai later on Wednesday (September 22). While DC is flying high and getting closer to the top of the table, SRH is at the bottom, having won only one match so far.

David Warner was fired as SRH captain midway through the competition, and he also lost his spot in the XI when Kane Williamson was named captain. Former England batsman Mark Butcher feels Warner will continue to be left out of the XI, and that with Jonny Bairstow out from the tournament, Jason Roy should step in.

“With Tom Moody and Warner at the top of the order, and Warner as captain, Sunrisers Hyderabad have enjoyed some glory years. On Cricket.com’s ‘Man vs Machine,’ Butcher remarked, “Your heart thinks nostalgically about what that duo was able to do and how they got along.”

“Jason Roy was in fantastic form at the close of England’s white-ball series in the United Kingdom. He’s going to be ravenous. Roy currently has the upper hand versus someone like Warner. So, that’s the approach I’d take with that one.”

In the IPL, SRH has defeated DC twice in Dubai, and Butcher believes the Hyderabad team can achieve a hat-trick tonight.

The good news for DC is that Shreyas Iyer has been deemed fit to play again, and he will be a valuable addition to the middle order. Shreyas, who led DC to the IPL 2020 final, will not be in charge of the squad; instead, Rishabh Pant has been given the job after leading the club to the top of the table in the first phase.
