Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali confirmed to play 5th Test at Old Trafford

Jos Buttler will recover the gloves for the last Test of the LV= Insurance series against India at Emirates Old Trafford, according to Joe Root. Moeen Ali is England’s first-choice spinner and Jack Leach will only play if conditions necessitate the use of two spinners.

Buttler was unable to play in the fourth Test of the series, which was held at The Kia Oval, due to the birth of his second child. Jonny Bairstow took over the gloves in his absence. With Buttler back in the lineup, England will have to choose between Bairstow and Pope for the final batting slot in the lineup. Pope is most likely to keep his spot after scoring 81 in the first innings.

At The Oval, Moeen had a terrible outing. While he scored 35 in the first innings, his dismissal – while attempting a slog when India appeared to be in trouble – was one of the game’s pivotal moments. In India’s second innings, he too let up more than 4.5 runs per over. Root, on the other hand, seems to affirm that he will play in the last Test.

“Jos is the team’s vice-captain,” Root said ahead of England’s training session on Wednesday at Old Trafford. “He’s a big part of what we’re about.” We know his run totals haven’t been as high as he’d like, but we all know what a fantastic player he is. Jos will return as vice-captain and wicketkeeper.
