Indian team received unusual WhatsApp messages prior to the cancellation of Manchester Test : Reports

While the BCCI and the ECB were in talks on Thursday night regarding how the fifth Test between India and England would go, it has now been revealed that the Indian squad received misleading messages on their team WhatsApp group, leaving them perplexed. It should be mentioned that after four matches, India led the series 2-1 and was determined to win the series in Manchester.

The last Test of the series, which was set to begin on Friday, was called off hours before it was to begin because the Indian side was “unable to field a team,” according to the ECB. Due to a Covid-19 scare in their camp following physio Yogesh Parmar’s positive result, the players were apprehensive about taking the field as they were worried about the situation.

A few hours before the official toss time, Virat Kohli’s men received “some unclear and contradicting information” on the team’s WhatsApp chat. The players were originally instructed to remain in their rooms until receiving confirmation that the game had been cancelled, then receiving another message stating that they could head out to the restaurant for breakfast.

The BCCI did instruct the players to pack their belongings and get ready to fly to the UAE for the IPL well ahead of the September 15 departure date.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore players – Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj – and the Mumbai Indians players – Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav – have now confirmed that they have taken private charter flights to the UAE, where the second half of the IPL 2021 will begin on September 19.
