Hardik Pandya expected to be dropped from India's T20 World Cup squad, Shardul Thakur or Shreyas Iyer to fill in

Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder for the Mumbai Indians (MI), has been struggling with his fitness recently. He was named in MI’s line-up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) solely as a batter, which has prompted speculation about his selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad. According to reports, Hardik could be replaced by a few other players. Many experts have always argued that the Baroda cricketer should not be selected just on the basis of his batting ability. Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder for the Mumbai Indians (MI), has been struggling with his fitness recently.

Hardik required some time to get back into full match fitness, according to MI bowling coach Shane Bond, hence he was left out of the team for the first two matches in the UAE. It has been confirmed that his bowling services would not be required against RCB.

“Obviously, we’re balancing the needs of our team with those of team India. It’s the one thing this franchise excels at, looking after its players with an eye not only on winning this competition but also on the upcoming World Cup,” Bond had stated.

In the death overs, he serves as a finisher or enforcer, as well as providing his captain with four critical overs with the ball. His place in the lineup will be reassessed if he isn’t fit enough to bowl in a T20 match with a lighter effort. Hardik has been granted the opportunity to choose which matches he bowls in since his back surgery.

The underlying explanation is usually that he needs to manage his workload. However, he is frequently unfit to play in the starting XI, which has had an impact on his performance. Hardik’s involvement in the lineup gives Team India a nice balance. They lack a seam-bowling all-rounder with the same destructive potential as the 27-year-old.

Teams have till October 10 to make changes to their T20 World Cup roster. According to rumours, if Hardik is unable to provide four overs for the skipper, the management will likely call in Shardul Thakur or Shreyas Iyer. Both are in India’s reserves and could be bumped up depending on how Hardik performs in the remaining IPL 2021 matches.
