Eoin Morgan confirmed participation in the second leg of IPL 2021

Following the postponement of England’s limited-overs tour to Bangladesh, Eoin Morgan has confirmed he will return to Kolkata Knight Riders for the rescheduled second half of the IPL in the UAE in September-October.

Morgan stated: “I think it was a win-win either way. If we went to Bangladesh we’d play in conditions that are foreign to us. If some guys go to the IPL, they’ll play in similar conditions [to the World Cup] or for guys that need a rest, they take a rest. “We’ve a lot of cricket to play between now and then. We’ve planned on the tour going ahead – that’s been part of our planning for a long time now – but equally, given the nature in which we now compete and live our lives, it’s not a bad thing for guys to either take time off or go to the IPL if they feel refreshed and have enough energy.”

England was scheduled to play three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals in Bangladesh in September and October, but the ECB and BCB issued statements on Tuesday morning stating that the visit had been “mutually decided” to be postponed until March 2023. The IPL is set to return on September 19 after being postponed midway through the season earlier this year, allowing England’s white-ball stars to participate ahead of the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Moeen Ali and Sam Curran (Chennai Super Kings), Sam Billings, Tom Curran, and Chris Woakes (Delhi Capitals), Eoin Morgan (Kolkata Knight Riders), Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan (Punjab Kings), Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), and Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy (Rajasthan Royals) are among England’s IPL players (Sunrisers Hyderabad). Liam Livingstone, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes were also on the Rajasthan Royals’ roster, albeit they were all unavailable during the first leg.

The final two remaining T20I matches for England will be played in Pakistan on October 14 and 15, before the World Cup starts on October 17, with both the ECB and the PCB confident that the tour will go place. The IPL final is also scheduled for October 15, which might result in a showdown for any players whose clubs make it that far in the tournament.
