Carlos Brathwaite gets re-signed by Sydney Sixers for BBL 2021-22

The Sydney Sixers have signed West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite for another season, the franchise announced. Brathwaite was a key component of the Sixers’ title-winning campaign last season, taking 16 wickets in 16 games. Brathwaite is the sole foreign player in the Sixers’ squad at the moment, joining Englishman Tom Curran. Curran sat out last season’s BBL due to bubble fatigue.

Brathwaite will be in his third season with the Sixers, having previously played four games in the tournament’s seventh edition. “Obviously, winning and the team’s success last year made it appealing to return,” Brathwaite explained. “As you get older, you absolutely want to be somewhere where you can compete for championships, but there is a deeper camaraderie and sense of family atmosphere at the Sixers.”

After a hectic summer in the United Kingdom, where he played for the Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast and captained the Manchester Originals in The Hundred, the West Indian all-rounder is gearing up to play for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The Sixers will hope that keeping Brathwaite puts them in a great position to defend their title and become the first team to win it three times in a row. Nine players from last season’s final XI will return to the Sixers this season, including Nathan Lyon and Tom Curran, who did not play in the 2020-21 season.

Sydney Sixers squad: Moises Henriques (capt), Sean Abbott, Carlos Brathwaite (West Indies), Daniel Christian, Tom Curran (England), Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Stephen O’Keefe, Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon, Ben Manenti, Josh Philippe, Lloyd Pope, Jordan Silk.
