Buttler to miss IPL 2021, Glenn Philips to be named as replacement

Rajasthan Royals announced on Saturday that star batsman Jos Buttler will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) to attend the birth of his second child.

The franchise has stated that England’s

keeper-batsman will be replaced by Glenn Philips of New Zealand. With 254 runs from seven matches, Buttler has been Rajasthan’s second best batsman in the first round of the IPL, considering a blazing 124 runs he scored against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last match.

Glenn Phillips is currently a member of the Caribbean Premier League’s Barbados Royals. The Royals were in fifth place in the points standings before the IPL was interrupted, having won three of their seven matches.

Philips, who was picked in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup team last week, has played 25 T20Is for the Black Caps. This wicket-keeper batsman from New Zealand is in fantastic form right now. Glenn has already won the hearts of everyone in England by batting brilliantly in the T20 Blast and The Hundred games for Welsh Fire.

The IPL would likely collide with England’s limited tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan leading up to the T20 World Cup. “The IPL usually does not overlap with any international matches, making it a relatively easy league to participate in. When it comes to international cricket, I’d expect England to take precedence “Buttler stated.

Rajasthan will also be missing England pacer Jofra Archer, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a recurring elbow issue. He’s also not playing for England in the current Test series against India.

The IPL 2021 second leg will be held from September 19 to October 15. After many COVID-19 instances were detected in its bio-bubble, the IPL was forced to suspend play after 29 games in May. The remaining games have been relocated from India to the United Arab Emirates.
