BCCI Plan B for IPL 2022 involves hosting it in South Africa or Sri Lanka

With COVID-19 cases making new records every day in India, the BCCI has come down on its knees to make a new plan for the venue of IPL 2022. The BCCI governing council has drawn up a new schedule for the IPL. When the postponement of the Ranji Trophy was discussed, the discussion of shifting the IPL arose. If the COVID graph does not fall in the coming months, BCCI may consider bringing IPL to South Africa’s shores. Even the option of Sri Lanka as a venue is kept open.

A BCCI official has opened up about their plans to host IPL 2022. “We couldn’t rely on the UAE all of the time, so we decided to look at other options. The time difference between South Africa and the UAE is also beneficial to the players. The team’s accommodations for the second test are spread out over many acres. On the property, there were walking trails and even a pond, which made things easier for the players who had been confined to their rooms for a previous couple of years on multiple overseas tours.”

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 emerged from African countries, and hosting IPL in that continent would be as ridiculous as hosting in the covid-stricken city of Mumbai. But successful India A tour of South Africa convinced BCCI that even IPL could operate safely in that country.
