BCCI didn't consult Kohli on Dhoni's appointment as India's mentor, and Ashwin's selection for the T20 World Cup 2021- Reports

The saga between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Virat Kohli is far from over, especially after the latest report from IANS revealing that the Indian board was unhappy with Virat Kohli’s captaincy following the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021 final debacle, according to sources. As a result, he was not contacted regarding MS Dhoni’s appointment as India’s T20 World Cup mentor in 2021.

India lost the WTC 2021 final to New Zealand in Southampton, England, and the Indian board was unhappy with Virat Kohli’s captaincy and decision to play two spinners despite rain and bad weather. Even BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed that he had been discussing Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as captain in one or more formats with the batter for the past few months.

After the T20 World Cup in 2021, Virat Kohli has officially confirmed that he will step down as captain of the Indian T20I side. According to insiders, the revolt against Kohli began a few months ago within the team, and the IANS report also stated that the board did not consult Virat Kohli before naming former captain MS Dhoni as the Indian team’s mentor for the ICC event.

During the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton, UK, Virat Kohli reportedly chastised a senior cricketer for displaying “no intent.” If sources are to be believed, Ravichandran Ashwin’s name is now being bandied about as one of the rebels, but this has yet to be substantiated.

Ashwin had been benched for the whole England Test series, and even head coach Ravi Shastri had shown interest in playing him before the fourth Test. Kohli appears to have disregarded this advice.

Kohli was not even consulted before the BCCI selectors chose Ravi Ashwin for the Indian 15-man roster for the T20 World Cup 2021, according to the report. Ashwin last played a T20I for India in 2017, so his inclusion drew a lot of attention. Virat Kohli reportedly wanted Yuzvendra Chahal in the team instead of the veteran, but the selectors ignored his request.
