Australia’s Tayla Vlaeminck ruled out of India ODIs and one-off Test

Tayla Vlaeminck, Australia women’s fast bowler, has been ruled out of the next ODIs and Test against India. The speedster has been kept under observation, according to head coach Matthew Mott, since she has been experiencing a niggle.

Vlaeminck, who missed last year’s T20 World Cup due to a stress fracture in her foot, endured some injury niggles during her pre-season in Victoria, according to Mott, and a careful approach to increasing her workloads will be adopted in preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand.

“We’ll have to churn through some bowlers because of the tight schedule,” Mott said. “The young bowlers will need to be managed really well, especially with the preparation we’ve had. Getting a match like that under our belt was absolute gold since the first couple of days are often the most dangerous.”

Both of Australia’s main bowlers will be unavailable for the two bilateral series. Megan Schutt, a fast bowler, will miss the series after the birth of her first child. With Vlaeminck out of the picture, Ellyse Perry will be expected to lead the bowling unit.

Furthermore, due to injury, the Australians will be without left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen. In the meanwhile, Mott praised Perry for stepping up her game recently. Mott was impressed to a significant part by her dismissal of skipper Meg Lanning at the nets.

Darcie Brown could make her Test debut in the absence of Vlaeminck, according to Mott. India’s tour of Australia kicks off on Tuesday, September 21 at Mackay’s Harrup Park. The Test match will begin on September 30 at Queensland’s Carrara Oval.
