Australia announces Women’s Ashes squad, uncapped Alana King included

The Women’s Ashes are scheduled to start on 20th January and Australia has announced the squad for the same. The Ashes series will consist of 1 test, 3 ODIs and 3 T20I matches. Alana King, who is an uncapped leg-spinner, has been included in the squad. She played admirably in the WBBL for the Perth Scorchers and is soon expected to make her international debut. The squad also sees the return of significant experienced players like Jess Jonassen, Rachael Haynes, and Megan Schutt.

Shawn Fledger, who is a national selector, has shared her experience in selecting the squad for the series. “With so many players coming off successful WBBL tournaments, this was a difficult selection process, but we’re sure we’ve picked a balanced, all-around group with players who can succeed in all three forms. Alana King has a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate her abilities at this level. She’s well-positioned to play a key part in the series, having developed in all aspects of her game over the previous several seasons. While Georgia Redmayne, Stella Campbell, Maitlan Brown, and Molly Strano were unable to play in the India series owing to a reduction in squad size, we are confident that they will be able to lead the A-side and step into the side when the occasion comes. Sophie Molineux will miss this series due to a stress fracture in her right foot suffered at the end of the WBBL, but we’ll keep an eye on her in the lead-up to the World Cup in the hopes that she’ll be fit, “Fledger stated.
