Alex Hales re-signs with Sydney Thunder for the 11th edition of the BBL

After signing on with the Sydney Thunder for the 11th season of the tournament, Alex Hales is set to reunite with his former England coach Trevor Bayliss. Bayliss was announced as Thunder’s next coach for the next three seasons in June of this year.

Since failing two recreational drug tests soon before the 2019 home World Cup, which England went on to win, Hales has continued to be overlooked by national selections. Bayliss, on the other hand, left his position after the Ashes that year. The exile persisted until earlier this year, when, despite a COVID-19 emergency within the original team, he was left out of a whole new-look side put together two days before the white-ball series against Pakistan.

Hales finished the 10th edition of the BBL as the leading run scorer with 543 runs, and his sustained strong performances in leagues throughout the world has seen the Thunder sign the 32-year-old for the coming season.

“The culture at Sydney Thunder, both on and off the field, is something special, and I am pleased to be a part of it again,” Hales stated.

“I’ve seen firsthand over the last two seasons how this franchise is putting together a team that believes they can win the BBL, and that’s the case now more than ever.”, he added

James Vince (re)signed with the Sixers on Tuesday, and Mujeeb ur Rahman (Heat), Carlos Brathwaite (Sixers), Tom Banton (Heat), and Sandeep Lamichhane (Hurricanes) will all play in the upcoming BBL edition. The season will begin on December 5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and conclude on January 28 at the SCG (2022).
